Summary

Raw recording of rain gauge in action, recorded 18-4-22, close to its original location on the roof of the Dines Cabin. This is recorded using a transducer.

Recordings were made using four microphones with different characteristics to capture different registers of the voicing of the instrument: A large transducer to pick up sonic resonance through the material of the gauge (copper) with no airborne sound A tiny omni-directional mic placed attached to the tube inside the gauge, to pick up the interior acoustics A gun-shot mic to focus on exterior air-borne sound, close to. An omni-directional stereo pair to capture the sounds of the rain gauge in its sonic environment (including birdsong, wind, passing airplanes, the M53 etc)
