Diary of Nautical Almanac work

Begun on 23rd November 1791, this diary is the main record of the efforts of Nevil Maskelyne, Astronomer Royal, to co-ordinate the production and publication of the Nautical Almanac. It reveals how he organised the work of the 'computers' and 'comparers', people recruited from across the country to conduct and check astronomical calculations on behalf of the Board of Longitude.
