A dome is technically a rounded vault forming the roof of a building or structure, typically with a circular base. For cosmic observation, domes function also as specific devices, often machinic, to provide the observer(s) with a 360º frame.
Bidston Observatory houses two observation towers which previously enabled cosmic exploration with a transit telescope and comet telescope.
